We’re long past such a comment. And I wouldn’t underestimate the other Bitcoin forks attempting to do just that: like Bitcoin Cash still aiming to do more for payments. Bitcoin is serving its place right now, but 2009 was a long time ago, and I think Satoshi would be v. happy with all the forks and disruption taking place since. He should be proud of its continued security and prevalence.

Bitcoin has arrived and is doing just fine. Developers are looking at utilising the underlying network itself for various project. New developments will come, and other networks will provide other uses. Speculation is just that.
